5. Blackwell's Bookshop
"A really convenient book shop located near most of the university buildings. It has a wide selection of books (textbooks and non-fiction) as well as some reasonably priced stationary that you can pick up if in need. With a cafe upstairs it also makes a nice place to study."

6. Paramount Books
"Fantastic book shop, quirky and full of oddities. A Manchester staple. Paramount is something out of a book you could read in their fantasy selection. They have an excellent range of comics and send hand books. Even a piece of fruit or veg with every purchase. The staff are wonderful, helpful and quirky. The mandatory mask policy seems to be controversial with some, but personally never bothered me. The no photograph or being on the phone rule is a bit stranger. But I can appreciate the no phone call bit. There is a slight musty smell, but, what else do old books en masses smell like eh?The reason it's great, is you do find many odd gems of books you would struggle to find elsewhere. I've personally found a very expensive rare book that goes on ebay for Β£100 for Β£5 here. Know what you want and come here and you'll find gems galore. The music and upstairs vintage clothes section is just a plus."

7. Chorlton Bookshop
"Lovely independent book shop, very quaint, good presentation, with very knowledgeable staff. A little haven for any bookworm. In a world that feels so impersonal, where you order books from Amazon, or find them randomly on charity and trift shops, this place feels like a small fragment of a dissappearing world. The cosy atmosphere and neat selection of books makes looking for a something new to read an immersive experience.I buy (obviously) more books than I can read, and everytime I come here to browse I always end up finding something else to add to the backlog pile. They have a vast selection available but if there's something they don't have they can always order it for you. Also available are plenty of postcards, nice ones, and a large selection of children and youth books, the plushies somehow also feel appropriate and add to the atmosphere. There's an old school boilers providing heating, and honestly I wish they had the space for a small sofa or chair for someone to sit and read a chapter or two, it doesn't need it, and it certainly doesn't have the space for it, but gosh would it be oh so yummy.Definitely stop by if you need a book to read on a rainy weekend or at the local Benito Lounge cafe."
